Setting up 2FA/MFA for Microsoft Access

Setting up 2FA/MFA for Microsoft Access

TIP: for McKibbon Microsoft Access, it is recommended to use a method that differs from any brand.com method that they may require. For example, if your name@hilton.com is setup with option 1 below, then select a DIFFERENT method for your McKibbon authentication. This will avoid what some users have reported as "stuck in a loop". The authentication is triggered for either entity under the same source entity in the app. As in, no matter what profile you are logging into it only triggers under the Hilton MFA. Therefore, the code won't work as you input it to qualify your McKibbon login.

1. Microsoft Authenticator App 📱

Ideal: Strongest and smoothest method with push notifications or OTP codes.

Setup Steps:

  1. Install the Microsoft Authenticator app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Sign in to your Microsoft 365 or Entra account and go to Security info (aka “My Sign-Ins”).
  3. Select Add method → Authenticator app → Add.
  4. A QR code appears—scan it using the Authenticator app.
  5. Choose either Receive notifications or Use verification code, then tap Next to confirm setup.
  6. After scanning and approving the sign-in, the app is linked for MFA.
  7. Next sign-in you'll get either a push prompt or an OTP code.

2. SMS Text Message

Ideal: Good fallback when app isn’t available.

Setup Steps:

  1. Go to your account’s Security info page.
  2. Click Add method → Phone → Add.
  3. Input your mobile number and select Text me a code → Next.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code received via SMS → Next.
  5. Confirmation: “SMS verified. Your phone was registered successfully”.
  6. Now you can choose “Text” during sign-in for MFA.

3. Phone Call

Ideal: Fallback for users without smartphones/text capability.

Setup Steps:

  1. Navigate to Security info.
  2. Choose Add method → Phone → Add.
  3. Enter your number and choose Call me → Next.
  4. You’ll receive a call; answer and follow instructions (typically press #).
  5. Once confirmed, “Phone call added” appears.
