Using an Office365 Mailbox Alias
What is an email alias?
An email alias is a forwarding address, meaning that all emails addressed to the alias, are forwarded to one or more specified accounts. The alias itself has no inbox, no login and cannot be used to send emails. This is commonly used to retain a mailbox from the prior "user" that may have contained a vanity address. For example,
john.doe@mckibbon.com. However, the new user is
jane.doe@mckibbon.com. So that "Jane" still has access to all prior mailbox content (including Calendar Events, Contacts, etc.) support will change the primary mailbox to
jane.doe@mckibbon.com and
john.doe@mckibbon.com is now deprecated.
By default, the email address or phone number that you use to sign up for your Microsoft account is considered the primary alias. Your primary alias shows up as the main account name when you view your profile information.
This can be changed at any time. Any other aliases are considered secondary aliases. You can control which secondary aliases can be used to sign in to your Microsoft account. If you want a specific alias to show as the email sender, you can set your secondary alias as your primary email address. To do this, here's how:
Select Your info.
Select Manage how you sign in to Microsoft.
Select Make primary next to the alias you want as your primary.
